One-click retouching covers 80% of portraits. But sometimes you know exactly what you want: warmer skin, a specific editorial style, or a heavier cleanup for a theatrical headshot. That's what custom retouch is for.

Start from a preset

PrismRetouch offers 8 style presets that bundle the most common looks:

• Natural — the default. Invisible cleanup, texture fully preserved.
• Studio — slightly stronger smoothing and tone evening, like a corporate headshot.
• Glamour — brighter eyes, more contrast shaping, magazine-style finish.
• Vintage — warm, softened tones that suit older photos and film looks.

Pick the preset closest to your goal, then refine with a prompt if needed.

Writing an effective custom prompt

You don't need prompt-engineering wizardry. Three rules cover most cases:

1. Say what to change, not what you feel. "Reduce shine on forehead and nose" works; "make me look better" is a coin flip.
2. One or two instructions per run. Stacking ten requests dilutes each. Run, review, then iterate.
3. Name the things to protect. "Keep my freckles and the scar on my left eyebrow" prevents over-smoothing of features you consider yours.

Prompts that work well

• "Even out skin tone, reduce redness around the nose, keep all freckles."
• "Whiten teeth slightly, brighten eyes, natural skin texture."
• "Soften harsh shadow under the chin, warm the overall tone."
• "Light cleanup only — remove the two pimples on my cheek, change nothing else."

When to iterate vs re-upload

If the style is right but too strong, re-run with a lighter instruction on the same original. If the composition itself fights the retouch (motion blur, extreme underexposure), a better source photo will beat any prompt.

Custom retouch and credits
